Location

Location sessions provide a unique backdrop for your headshot. Noblesville Town Square is a great location and a personal favorite. A mix of old and modern architecture along with greenery and ease of access make it a great spot. Where do you want to go? Location sessions are normally outside, but can be indoors. Weather dependent unless you're brave. We service central Indiana and beyond.

Group photos are available in studio, on-site or on location. Environmental portraits tend to be easier due to backdrop size limitations.

Virtual Group Image
Schedules and small spaces can make a team photo impossible. Digital group images solve that problem.

Backgrounds

Backgrounds should compliment your headshot, not distract. A simple background is usually best. Solid medium grey and white are our two most popular choices. Studio sessions offer more choices compared to on-site sessions.

Solid Grey

Solid grey is our studio default background. Grey is extremely versatile and can be modified using lighting (as was done above - the two backdrops are the same.) Studio background choices include: medium solid grey, black, white and assorted colors (some with patterns.) On-site backgrounds available by request.

Solid White

Our white backdrop is available in studio and on-site at your location. White is a good choice if matching backgrounds for a consistent look on your website is important. A white background can easily be matched regardless of when and where a portrait is created.

Digital Backgrounds / Background Removal

Some companies want all their employee headshots to have a consistent background, even if they work in different locations. While white is easy to match, they want something different and unique. That's where I come in! I use digital tools to remove the original background and give them a transparent file or add a new background that matches their vibe.

Etc., Etc., Etc.

More than head and shoulders...

While a "head and shoulders" portrait is the traditional headshot, we also create close up face portraits, 3/4, full body and group portraits (including digital composite group portraits.) Let Mike know when you schedule your session if you want something other than a traditional corporate headshot. The studio works best for full body photos.

More than corporate...

Indyheadshots is perfect for established or aspiring models, actors and other creatives. We provide single headshots or multiple images for "comp" cards. Sample image is from an exterior location session.

Which background should you choose?

Don't choose a trendy background, make a selection that won't go out of style. Rules are made to be broken, but usually a dark background works with dark clothes (low key) while light clothes work on white (high key) - of course our medium solid gray or cloud grey work with anything. Solid medium grey is our default studio and on-site background.

When it comes to dressing for a headshot session, it’s important to keep a few key things in mind. Here are some tips to help you choose the right outfit:

  1. Keep it simple: Stick to solid, neutral colors like black, white, grey, or navy. Avoid bold patterns or prints that can be distracting or overpowering.

  2. Dress appropriately for the occasion: Think about the purpose of your headshot and the industry you work in. For example, if you work in a corporate environment, you may want to wear a suit or dress pants and a blazer. If you work in a creative industry, you may be able to get away with something more casual and stylish.

  3. Make sure it fits well: Your clothing should fit well and be comfortable to wear. Avoid anything that’s too tight or too loose, as this can be unflattering in photos. Long sleeves are usually recommended over short sleeves.

  4. Pay attention to details: Make sure your clothing is clean, ironed, and free of wrinkles. Also, consider accessories like jewelry or a scarf, but don’t overdo it. Simple is usually better.

  5. Avoid anything too trendy: While it’s important to look stylish and modern, avoid anything too trendy that may look outdated in a few years. Stick to classic styles that will stand the test of time.

  6. Tidy up any facial hair. Check anywhere on your head where hair is not supposed to be and remove.

Remember, the focus of the headshot should be on you, not your outfit. Keep it simple and professional, and you’ll be sure to look your best in your photos.

Remember your hair brush, comb or anything else needed for last minute touchups. A restroom and dressing room are available, but please come dressed and ready to go.
